Hi Mark, Just reading todays paper ( The Chronicle-Herald Saturday,July 29,2000 ) and saw the following article. " N.S. divers to examine possible torpedo" ' A Nova Scotia military dive team left Friday to investigate a possible German torpedo found in Newfoundland. The seven divers from the Fleet Diving Unit out of 12 Wing Shearwater will examine what's beleived to be a Second World War German torpedo off Conception Bay. The torpedo is about 30 meters off the wreck Rose Castle, under 45 meters of water. The device was found in the bay about 25 kilometers west of St. John's. The divers, all experts in explosive ordinance disposal, hope to determine whether the warhead is there. Just thpught you might like to know.If I see anything else, I will let you know. Regards, Cousin Paul

Mark: Tom Kennedy, my cousin, whose father was Chief engineer of Rose Castle before she was sunk, was also my father's first cousin. My father served on the Rose Castle for a short time under Tom Sr., as second engineer, Before going on to the Lord Strathcona, which was sunk just after he and the rest of the crew got into the boats. I can't say anything about your website yet, as I went to the guest book first, but am sure it is excellent, as Tom Kennedy has told me. Cheers, John.

Hello Mark, my Mom ( Aunt Veda ) came out today and told me about your site. You have done a great job. We all need to remember our "roots". I guess that's why I enjoy sailing so much. I know I will visit this site many times as I learn more of our Grandfather. Thanks, cousin Paul.

Hi! My name is DonnaLynn Hardy MacLean, and my father Gordon W. Hardy is the last surviving member off the S.S. Rose Castle. Dad met your father Robie last summer and they shared wonderful and sad stories during their visit. Dad spoke with Robie last evening and that is how I got your impressive website. Your web site is truly a wonderful memorial to your Grandfather and the entire Merchant Navy. I read a bumper sticker on the back of a Ford Windstar the other day and it read, Enjoy your freedom, thank a Vet.

Mark: This is a beautiful sight, into which you have put lots of time and work. I'm sure your grandfather is happy looking down on earth, and seeing that all the hardships he faced are recognized in this special tribute. I hope that one day when I'm gone, I'll be remembered in such a loving way. Congratulations Mark! I'm proud to have a son-in-law like you! Love..Roman.
